THESE ARE NOT YOUR AVERAGE VINTAGE
We're the pioneers of archive* fashion events in Toronto. Working towards empowering the local creative community.
*Archive = Vintage worth remembering
Banned by Yves Saint Laurent’s business partner Pierre Bergé from release after its initial screening in 2007, this documentary gives a rare backstage glimpse at YSL and his couturier, following them from sketching and developing the house’s final collection, leading up to his retirement in 2002.
The depiction of an aging, ailing Saint Laurent moments before his departure from the fashion house is said to have incensed Pierre Bergé who blocked the release of the film. It wasn’t until the end of 2015, seven years after Saint Laurent’s death in 2008, Bergé finally approved the documentary’s official release.
After intense restoration work the film made its release debut on November 2018.
As Yves Saint Laurent, one of the greatest Parisian haute couture designers, draws the sketches for his final collection, behind the scenes, Pierre Bergé manages a series of events to celebrate the fashion icon as a modern myth. Immersed inside the couture house during YSL’s final two years, documentary filmmaker Olivier Meyrou’s camera films YSL-Bergé.
We’re excited to bring this documentary out of the shadows and present it to the Toronto creative community. CELEBRATION is an amazing piece of film that brings to life one of the most creative and revolutionary minds of 20th century fashion.
We hope that through this documentary we can inspire the journey of new creatives looking to make their own impact in the world.
